Hello, everyone! It's time to announce my next painting project: a teddy bear. I found the fluffy guy waiting in the basement on his rocking chair, and I knew I found my next painting subject! Especially in these trying times, we could all use a little comfort, so what better than a huge teddy bear? He's white and fluffy, and I can't wait to finish the painting and show you. Since I couldn't find a table to set up, I had to paint sitting on the floor. I only have a small table-top easel, you see. I spread out some newspapers and put my easel up and got painting! Instead of music, I've been listening to a podcast on Spotify. It's called "The Savvy Painter." It's full of all sorts of good advice and is great to listen to when painting. 2/27/2020 I finished work on a piece titled "Walking." It is an assignment for my painting class with the challenge of creating a "painting" from non-paint materials. I wasn't sure what to do and I considered making a collage, which is the most common thing to do for this project. I wanted to do something different and as I was digging around my house for inspiration, I came upon the idea of using dirt and plants to make a nature scene. I immediately gathered some gravel from the driveway and found a bag of potting soil that was mostly empty. I got the idea of making a trail scene where a dog stepped in the dirt and made a paw print. I used plenty of glue and got the dirt and rocks down using the backside of a canvas so that it acted as a sort of container. That way I didn't have dirt all over the floor! I found some plastic plants at a dollar store and used that to create a sort of frame to push the idea of being outdoors. The only bit of paint I used ...

2/26/2020 Today I finished work on a jewelry piece titled "No Hunting." The ring itself is cast bronze and the sign is copper. They are displayed together in a ring box. The ring is also wearable. It is the first completed project this school semester. The giraffe has two indented spots on either side of the head, which is placed at the top of the ring. The sign is made to have the appearance of an old wood sign that has the words "NO HUNTING" carved into it. Both pieces are coated in a patina, which is simply a form of coloring the metal.  I had a lot of fun making this piece and I learned plenty. For one, I didn't know about using patinas. This particular patina (color) was made with some liver of sulfur, a substance that reacts with the surface metal to create the brown or black color. I dipped both items into it and used steel wool to take off some of the resulting patina. I left the sign darker than the ring so that it looks aged. The o...

Hi! Welcome to my blog! I would like to let you know that beyond this post is very old stuff! Poetry, pictures, and projects from many years ago. If you go beyond this post, the quality is representative of the age of which I posted it. I started this blog when I was eight so the farther back you go, the more you have to keep in mind, I was still growing and learning. That is all!
